What is an internship and why do one?

An internship is a supervised, real-world learning experience related to your major or career field. Internships allow you to:

  • Explore a career field and determine if it is a good fit for your skills and interests.
  • Form relationships with professionals who may help you connect to other companies, organizations or experiences.
  • Demonstrate work-related knowledge and skills which will increase your marketability for future internships and full-time positions.

Internship Grants

Internship Registration Information

To register for an internship, please log into your Handshake account using your Drury email address and OneLogin. Once you are logged in, click on Career Center, then Experiences to access the Internship Commitment Form. Before you begin the form, make sure you have access to the following information:

  • Faculty Sponsor’s contact info (teaches the internship class)
  • Faculty Advisor’s contact info (found in MyDrury)
  • Site Supervisor’s contact info (the individual who will be supervising you at your internship site)
  • Internship Course Code
If you are unfamiliar with the internship course you will be taking, please reach out to your Faculty Advisor
  • Job description/general idea of internship responsibilities
  • List of academic assignments required for your internship class
If you are unfamiliar with the internship course assignments, please contact your Faculty Sponsor.

You will need to fill out one Internship Commitment Form per internship course desired.

Once you have completed the Internship Commitment Form via Handshake, a member of the Career Planning & Development Office will obtain approvals from your Faculty Sponsor, Faculty Advisor, and Site Supervisor. Please encourage these individuals to be on the lookout for an email from Handshake with a link to approve.

Once all three approvers have submitted their approvals, a member of the Career Planning & Development Office will ‘CC you on an email to the Registrar’s Office, asking that you be registered for your internship course. As soon as the Registrar confirms that you have been enrolled in the course, please double-check that it has been added to your schedule on MyDrury, and then you’re ready for your internship!

Please note, all students completing an internship in a country outside the USA are required to fill out a Study Abroad application. Questions about this form can be sent to Tom Russo (trusso@drury.edu).

Additionally, if you are an international student completing an internship in the USA, the Career Planning & Development Office will forward your Internship Commitment Form to Allen Long (xlong@drury.edu) to begin the CPT/OPT process.
