Clifton D. Petty, Ph.D.

Professor of Management
Dean of the Breech School of Business

Growing up in a family business, Dr. Clif Petty learned from his parents that business is a service profession. After two and a half years as a corporate banker with Texas Commerce Bank, Petty returned to school to earn his Ph.D. in Management and Organizational Behavior at the University of Houston. Dr. Petty has been a faculty member at Drury University since 1993, and was appointed the Dean of the Breech School of Business Administration in August of 2020.

His research began in traditional organizational behavior areas, particularly negotiation and decision-making. But early on Dr. Petty migrated toward the more macro areas of strategy, corporate policy, and corporate governance (boards of directors). These areas of study are a nice fit for a management professor with a banker’s lean toward financial analysis. He mostly writes cases and papers about teaching management.
