Philip Swope, PsyD, LP
Philip Swope, PsyD, graduated with a doctorate in psychology from Spalding University, and is an employee of Burrell Behavioral Health. He began his career in the field of integration, working with primary care providers to address behavioral components of physical health problems, as well as assessment for problems such as ADHD. In 2019, Drury University partnered with Burrell to further provide students with greater access to mental health services, and the Burrell on Campus program was born! His primary interest is helping college age students in resolving phase of life issues, improving stress management and coping skills, and processing relationship difficulties. Additionally, he has experience treating ADHD, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, OCD, body image issues, and issues surrounding gender identity. He has lived in the Springfield Missouri area intermittently since 2001, and is familiar with a wide variety of resources to which he can connect students. In his free time he loves playing music and attempting to train his two unruly dogs, Rhett and Rhapsody.
Ty Thornton, MS LPC
Ty Thornton, LPC graduated with a Masters Degree in clinical psychology from Evangel University, and is an employee of Burrell Behavioral Health. Her primary area of focus is working with college students, addressing a variety of mental health concerns. She especially enjoys working with students athletes and was a former college basketball player herself. Ty has experience treating a wide range of concerns, such as mood and anxiety disorders, substance abuse, trauma, self esteem issues and relationship/family dynamics. In her time away from the counseling office Ty enjoys spending time with her husband and children, being outdoors or on the lake and is an avid runner and yogi.
Andrea Bench, MS LPC
Andrea Bench, LPC graduated with a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Southwest Missouri State University, and is an employee of Burrell Behavioral Health. Her primary area of focus is working with college students as they transition into adulthood so they can achieve their goals. Andrea has experience working with a wide variety of mental health concerns such as substance use, anxiety, depression, communication, relationships, stress management, self-esteem and trauma. Outside of the office Andrea enjoys spending time with her husband, kids, and dog Jack, as well as running, reading and traveling.
