This scholarship is awarded in honor of Roberta Lee Cox and Mildred Virginia Jones.
Roberta Lee Cox spent her entire career in elementary education teaching in various locations in Southwest Missouri and retiring from Springfield Public Schools in Missouri. She was the first Director of Project Head Start in Springfield, Missouri, in the 1960’s. She received her B.S. Degree from Southwest Missouri State University and her M.A. Degree in Education from University of Missouri – Columbia. Roberta was married to Robert M. Cox, Sr. for sixty years. Their two sons are Drury graduates, Robert M. Cox, Jr. (Class of 1967) and John C. Cox (Class of 1969).
Mildred Virginia Jones spent her entire career in education teaching and as an elementary principal in the Springfield Public Schools in Missouri. She received her B.S. Degree from Southwest Missouri State University and her M.A. Degree from New York University in New York City. She was a very close sister to Roberta Cox.
PURPOSE: The Cox Family Scholarship is awarded annually to a Drury University Day School student pursuing a degree in Elementary Education with the intent to graduate within four years. This scholarship was developed to assist a student, with the potential to be an excellent educator, with tuition costs at Drury University.
