The Writing Center is located at the O’Reilly Enterprise Center. You’ll find us in the Compass Center Resource Library, or room 130. Hope to see you there!
We can help at all stages of the writing process—brainstorming, drafting, revising and polishing. We encourage students from all disciplines to make use of our free service. While we often help students revise a nearly completed essay, we can also help those having trouble interpreting an assignment or getting started. We encourage you to come to The Writing Center even before you have written anything!
Plan to visit The Writing Center well before your paper is due. Writing improves with careful reading and revision; ideally, this should occur throughout the writing process, not only on the afternoon or evening before an assignment must be turned in.
The Writing Center’s open hours operate on a drop-in, or first-come/ first-served, basis. To reserve a time slot or to make an appointment, contact the tutor via Drury email. Tutors have limited availability outside their scheduled hours.

Jessalyn Mahan is a senior English & Writing major with a Film Studies certificate and a minor in Honors & Leadership. She is the Vice President of Sigma Tau Delta and hopes to teach English and grammar after graduation. Jessalyn enjoys research projects, literary analyses, and creative writing. She loves to garden, try new hobbies, and walk the Greenway trail.

Sara Etcher is a 3rd Year student at Drury pursuing English, Political Science, and Writing majors, the Honors Minor, and the Activist Toolkit Certificate. On campus, she is involved in the Pre Law club as the social media manager and attends events and meetings for a variety of organizations. After graduation, she aims to work in public policy and eventually attend law school. If she is not in class or doing homework, she can be found working at a law firm, exploring local coffee shops in Springfield, reading/crying over a book, or watching a Netflix comedy special. She is able to help with all aspects of writing, but especially enjoys structuring, MLA, grammar and style, and brainstorming!

Esther Manning is a senior majoring in History and Secondary Education. She is involved with leadership in Drury Feminists Club, History Club, Phi Alpha Theta, and College Democrats. When she’s back home in Kansas City, she enjoys her job as a barista, spending time with her cat Romeo and reading Romantasy books. Doubling as the history tutor, Esther specializes in helping students with historical writing, primary source analyses, big research projects, and Chicago Manual Style. She is happy to help you brainstorm, find sources, refine your thesis, organize your writing, and build the skills of a confident writer!

Julia Hoge is a sophomore English & Writing major with an Honors & Leadership minor. She is currently a Co-President of the Honors Student Association and is a member of Sigma Tau Delta. Julia loves reading, baking, listening to music, doing her nails, Stan Twitter, and birthday cake ice cream. She enjoys assisting with the structuring and organization of papers, MLA formatting, and is especially fond of creative writing assignments.
