The Middle East studies minor complements the Engaging Our World general education curriculum, allowing students to integrate a broad global perspective with a more in-depth understanding of a crucially important region of the world.

Study of the Middle East provides an exposure to a wide diversity of cultural, artistic, religious, political, economic and social systems. As the birthplace of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, the Middle East occupies a central place in the spiritual and historical development of human civilizations.

The persistence of conflict and violence in the region makes an understanding of the Middle East essential for a global citizen. A Middle East studies minor prepares students for a range of careers including public service, international business, education, diplomacy, law and nonprofit work.
