Dr. Neff joined the Drury family in 2025 in the role of University Chaplain, Professor of Religious Studies, and Director of Religious and Spiritual Life. As the primary religious studies faculty member, Dr. Neff teaches courses in Bible, Christian Ethics, Church History, Christian Formation, and Global Christianity. He also oversees the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and serves Drury students and staff as University Chaplain.
An Ordained Elder in The United Methodist Church, Dr. Neff served in pastoral ministry from 1999-2014 before transitioning into higher education. He served as Vice President for University-Church Relations and Dean of the Chapel at Oklahoma City University from 2014-2019 and Executive Director for the Office of Christian Ministry at Ashland University from 2020-2025. He has also previously served as an adjunct professor of religious studies for Eastern Oklahoma State College, Oklahoma City University, and Ashland University starting in 2007.
Dr. Neff’s areas of academic interest are Late Second Temple Judaism, Early Christianity, Non-canonical Writings, and Christian Spirituality. He has a passion for Civil Rights and Holocaust education, as well as ecumenical and interfaith dialogue. Dr. Neff also leads an annual Civil Rights Pilgrimage for students, and domestic and international service trips to build homes, schools, and provide health clinics in impoverished communities.
