SPRINGFIELD, MO., April 21, 2022 – Drury University’s L.E. Meador Center for Politics and Citizenship will welcome CoxHealth President and CEO Steve Edwards ‘88 to speak on Monday, April 25 at 6 p.m. in the Lay Hall Auditorium. Edwards’ talk, “Democracy, Public Health Policy, and Fight Against Misinformation,” will address his experience of leading the community through the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the 2021-2022 Meador Center Speaker Series, this event is free and open to the public.

“We’re excited to hear from Steve during this speaker series,” said Dan Ponder, L.E. Meador Professor of Political Science and Director of Meador Center for Politics and Citizenship

“He will bring a unique and important perspective, not only on the COVID pandemic, but the pandemic of misinformation that adds a complicated and delicate layer to communications.”

Edwards is in his 10th year as CEO and his 29th year of service to CoxHealth. He has served in various leadership roles in the organization. In addition, during high school and college, he served as a grounds crew attendant and emergency department orderly.
Prior to returning to CoxHealth in 1992, Edwards worked at Baylor University Medical Center, and Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

He is a 1988 graduate of Drury University, earned a Master of Healthcare Administration from Washington University in 1990 and a post graduate fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in 1991.

In 2019 he served as chairman of the Missouri Hospital Association; he is currently vice chairman of the Drury University Board of Trustees and serves on the boards of the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, Healthy Living Alliance and the Burrell Behavioral Center.
