Springfield, MO., Nov. 1, 2022 – Drury University is now accepting applications to its new Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program. Thirty students will begin classes next fall and 40 spots will be available the following year. Applications opened Oct. 1 and will be received through March 1, 2023.

“One of the areas that makes us unique is our focus on developing leaders in the health care field,” said Kathleen Flach, director of PA studies. “Students will be given the opportunity to focus their capstone project on clinical leadership and take a year-long course dedicated to studying clinical leadership.”

The inaugural class will begin in August 2023 and function as a cohort, going through the 27-month program together. The program will begin with classroom and laboratory instruction, followed by clinical rotations in behavioral medicine, emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics & gynecology, pediatrics, surgery and two elective rotations.

New faculty members were hired from across the country to teach in the program and two additional learning spaces were created. The first is a cadaver lab in the Trustee Science Center. The lab can house eight cadavers and will be overseen by a newly hired anatomist. The second space is at Cox North, where a post-op ICU unit was rehabilitated into a classroom, seven problem-based learning rooms and a physical diagnosis lab.

“Drury looks forward to providing educational opportunities for students pursuing a career as a physician assistant,” said Beth Harville, executive vice president and provost. “We are pleased the highly skilled graduates from this program will help meet the growing need for health care professionals in our community and beyond.”

Drury’s physician assistant program is currently in the final stages of the accreditation process. A decision from the accreditation committee is expected in March 2023.
