Directions

Teacher Candidates (EDUC 661 Practicum Students) will be scored based on a 0-4 scale and assessed by the Course Faculty Member/Cooperating Teacher. The scores are equally weighted and reported during the certification recommendation process. Below are the scoring descriptors:

  • Not Applicable – does not apply to practicum experience
  • No Evidence (0) – the practicum candidate possesses the necessary knowledge but does not apply this knowledge.
  • Below Mastery (1) – the practicum candidate possesses the necessary knowledge and inconsistently and somewhat effectively applies this knowledge.
  • Near Mastery (2) – the practicum candidate possesses the necessary knowledge and consistently and effectively applies this knowledge.
  • Mastery (3) - the practicum candidate consistently demonstrates and applies the necessary knowledge to improve student learning.
  • Exceeds Mastery (4) – the practicum candidate exceeds expectations

Evaluation

ILA Standard 3.3 Assessment and Evaluation: Candidates participate in and lead professional learning experiences to assist teachers in selecting, administering, analyzing, interpreting assessments, and using results for instructional decision making in classrooms and schools. (MTS 7.2; INTASC 6)
ILA Standard 3.4 Assessment and Evaluation: Candidates, using both written and oral communication, explain assessment results and advocate for appropriate literacy and language practices to a variety of stakeholders, including students, administrators, teachers, other educators, and parents/ guardians. ILA Standard 6.3 Professional Learning & Leadership: Candidates develop, refine, and demonstrate leadership and facilitation skills when working with individuals and groups. (MTS 9.3; INTASC 10)
ILA Standard 6.4 Professional Learning & Leadership: Candidates consult with and advocate on behalf of teachers, students, families, and communities for effective literacy practices and policies. (MTS 9.3; INTASC 10)
ILA Standard 7.3 Practicum/Clinical Experience: Candidates have ongoing opportunities for authentic, school-based practicum experiences. (MTS 8.2; INTASC 9)
ILA Standard 7.4 Practicum/Clinical Experience: Candidates receive supervision, including observation (in-person, computer assisted, or video analysis) and ongoing feedback during their practicum/clinical experiences by supervisors who understand literacy processes, have literacy content knowledge, understand literacy assessment and evidence-based instructional strategies and, preferably, have experience as reading/literacy specialists.
