This course examines the history of Muslim societies from the sixteenth century until the present. Topics will include Islam as a global religious tradition and empires such as the Mughals and the Ottomans. The class also examines pan-Islamic movements, imperial encounters, and the formation of the Muslim-majority nation-states across Asia and Africa in the twentieth century.
