Corey Bray

Vice President and Director of Athletics

Corey started his tenure as Drury University’s vice president and director of athletics on March 18, 2019. Bray was previously the associate athletics director for compliance at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where his responsibilities included serving on the athletics department’s senior leadership team with direct oversight of selected budgets, compliance and specific athletics programs. While at UAB, Bray also served as the co-tournament director for the NCAA National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship from 2016-18, implemented an internship program and served as a mentor in the UAB Athletics Freshman Leadership Institute.

Prior to his time at UAB, Bray was assistant athletics director for administration at Eastern Kentucky University for six years. The previous seven years, he spent working for the NCAA in Indianapolis in various roles, including associate director of research focusing on areas such as gender equity, diversity, finances, marketing and participation rates. Bray was also a liaison to several national committees while at the NCAA headquarters. Bray earned a bachelor’s in psychology from Pacific Lutheran University, where he also minored in coaching and earned letters in football and track and field all four years. He holds a master’s in sports psychology from the University of Oregon and is a graduate of the Sports Management Institute.

During his more than 20-year tenure as an athletics administrator, Bray has presented at the American Volleyball Coaches Association and the National Association for Athletics Compliance conventions. Currently, Bray serves as a member of the Springfield Sports Commission, the Great Lakes Valley Conference Awards Committee and the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Midwest Regional Advisory Committee.

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with the president, senior leadership members, staff and faculty to support the mission, vision and values of the university through the implementation of Drury’s athletics programs.
  • Oversees 22 NCAA and six non-NCAA sports as an NCAA Division II and GLVC member institution.
  • Oversees all aspects of the athletics department, including student-athlete development, media relations, business operations, compliance, fundraising, corporate sponsorships, ticket operations, sports medicine, facilities and operations.

During his tenure with Drury Corey has:

  • Revised the athletics department organizational structure
  • Implemented a sport administrator structure
  • Created and hired an associate athletics director for external affairs position
  • Created and hired an assistant athletic trainer position and started the Esports program
  • Launched beer sales in the O’Reilly Family Event Center during games and events
  • Launched the department’s first matching gift crowdfunding initiative
  • Conducted the department’s first online auction
