Orientation Leader Information

Orientation Leaders are the key to a successful and highly impactful orientation program. The Office of Orientation and New Student Programs is looking for a diverse group of student leaders to be a part of this amazing team! We need students of all personality types; from the take charge, go-getters to the quiet, reserved leaders, everyone is welcome! We also strive to represent all classes of students, from those who will be entering their sophomore year to fifth-year seniors. If you love Drury and would like to have a positive impact connecting the new class of students to life on campus we would like to encourage you to apply!

There will be two brief information sessions offered to learn more about what it means to be a part of the Orientation Staff. These are optional sessions that will give an overview of the O-Leader role to answer any questions you may have about the position.

Information Session 1 – Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 4 p.m. in FSC 204

Information Session 2 – Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 4 p.m. in FSC 204

Information Session 3 – Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. in FSC 204

Position Description

Orientation plays a key role in the success of first-year students by providing a fun, safe and positive environment designed to transition new students into college. Orientation leaders help by introducing students, their family and guests to the campus and its resources.

The Office of New Student Programs will select student leaders to assist with Fusion First Day (June 26, 2026) and New Student Orientation (August 14-17, 2026) as well as other opportunities throughout the year.

No experience necessary as we will train you for this role. Those students interested in a RA and O-Leader position should apply for both!

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time Drury day school student and returning as a Drury undergraduate for Fall 2026
  • Good academic and disciplinary standing including a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5
  • Conduct records will be reviewed. Findings do not necessarily prevent a student from being considered, but can be a factor in hiring.
  • Desire to enhance leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Displays punctuality and good time management skills
  • Interest in working with students, family, guests, staff and faculty
  • Possess a positive attitude and enthusiasm for Drury University
  • Reliable transportation (unless you do not own a car or are an international student)

Responsibilities

  • Welcome new students and family members to Drury University during Fusion First Day and New Student Orientation
  • Responsible for effective communication within the Orientation group, new incoming students/families, and teammates
  • Attend morning meetings with assigned Orientation Coordinators
  • Lead discussion groups with incoming students  and assist in the preparation and direction of orientation activities
  • Explain academic opportunities and procedures to new students
  • Acquaint new students with campus services and building locations
  • Represent Drury University in a positive manner to students, family members and guests
  • Help students move into their residence halls during New Student Move-in Day

Mandatory Training Sessions – MUST ATTEND Trainings (only limited exceptions will be granted for returning O-Leaders)

    • Sunday, February 15, 2026, 1-4 p.m. in FSC Ballroom
    • Sunday, March 1, 2026, 1-4 p.m. in FSC Ballroom
    • Sunday, March 22, 2026, 1-4 p.m. in FSC Ballroom
    • Sunday, April 12, 2026, 1-4 p.m. in FSC Ballroom
    • Sunday, April 26, 2026, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in FSC Ballroom
    • Fusion First Day on June 26, 2026 (Please let us know if you are NOT able to attend)
    • Training session on August 10, 2026, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in FSC Ballroom
    • New Student Orientation activities from August 14-August 17
    • O-Leader Banquet: Date and Time TBA (October/November)

Application

Complete online application and answer appropriate questions regarding a new applicant or returning applicant. Please also upload a photo in the space provided.

Preliminary Selections

The first round of selections is based solely on your application, recommendation forms and past experience as an Orientation Leader (for those reapplying). You will be notified via e-mail if you will need to sign up for an interview time.

Interviews

Applicants will participate in one interview with the selection committee. You will sign up for an interview after receiving the interview invitation email. We have a limited number of spots available and selections are not guaranteed.

Training

If you are selected for the Orientation Team, mandatory training sessions are required. Dates are listed above. If you are unable to attend a training session please let us know, but only limited exceptions will be made.
