John Prescott, D.M.A.

Professor of Theory, Ear-Training, Composition

John Prescott joined the faculty at Drury in Fall 2024, teaching music theory and composition  after 38 years at Missouri State University.  During his time at MSU, he served as Graduate Coordinator, and twice as Music Department Head.  He is a composer of works for band, orchestra, chorus, solo and chamber works which have been performed world-wide. Dr. Prescott has degrees in music theory and composition from Florida State University and from the University of Kansas where he studied composition with John Pozdro and James Barnes.  Prescott is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), the Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA), and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
