Seth Pearl, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Seth Pearl’s passion for working with students to provide an educational experience that enhances their professional and personal lives stems from his experiences as a student at a liberal arts university. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Digital Design and Fabrication from the State University of New York at New Paltz, where he was honored with the Division of Engineering Programs Princeps Achievement Award and the ASME Student Section Recognition Program Award. He also earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from the Pennsylvania State University. His educational background as a student assistant and lecturer for undergraduates across multiple engineering courses gives him the skillset to maximize students’ full potential.

Dr Pearl’s research interests explore students’ natural design tendencies and evaluating the use of interventions on students’ early-stage designs for 3D printing (aka additive manufacturing or AM). He is dedicated to improving design for AM (DfAM) education by considering the students’ design output and pursuing efforts to investigate the intent behind the students’ design decision making rationale. He also aims to promote interdisciplinary collaboration through mixed-research projects to share a wealth of knowledge for the betterment of society.
