Chemistry Major

The chemistry program is designed to provide students with a hands-on approach to learning with modern-day equipment and instrumentation. The curriculum offers three majors that will prepare students for either direct employment after graduation or continued education in graduate school or a health-related profession.

The chemistry department has an academic program approved by the American Chemical Society and offers students who meet the approved requirements an ACS certified degree.

Students planning a career in chemistry or biochemistry research, or as a professional chemist or biochemist, are strongly encouraged to complete the major approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS).

ACS Chemistry Major, BS

The Bachelor of Science ACS Chemistry major requires 64 credit hours of coursework. Students planning a career in chemistry or biochemistry research, or as a professional chemist or biochemist, are strongly encouraged to complete the major approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS).

*Students may only select CHEM 412 or CHEM 415.

Chemistry Major, BA

It is strongly recommended that students contact an advisor in the chemistry program to help them determine which major will provide the best opportunity for them to successfully complete preparation for their chosen career.

The Chemistry major requires 44 credit hours of coursework.

*Students may select only CHEM 312 or CHEM 315.

*Students may select only CHEM 312‐L or CHEM 315‐L.

*Students may select only CHEM 412 or CHEM 415.
