SPRINGFIELD, Mo., January 8, 2026 – Michael Boone, a veteran of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, has been named Executive Director of Drury University’s Law Enforcement Academy. He began his duties at Drury on January 5, 2026.
“I am looking forward to preparing the recruits in the Drury Law Enforcement Academy to be the next guardians of our communities,” Boone said. “I was a police officer for over 21 years, spending significant time instructing at the academy and also teaching on a national level. I am excited to be a part of the Drury family.”
Boone, who has served as a Legal Instructor with Blue to Gold Law Enforcement Training since February 2021, worked for eight years as an Academy Training & Counseling Officer with the LVMPD.
“Mike Boone emerged as the ideal candidate to take the Drury Law Enforcement Academy to the next level,” said Dr. Kevin Kropf, Executive Vice President of Enrollment Management & Drury GO. “ Mike’s extensive experience as both an officer of the law and a trainer — plus his enthusiasm for preparing the next generation of public safety officers — put him at the top of the over 80 applications we received. There has never been a better time to prepare for a career in law enforcement at Drury. I know Mike is excited to extend our partnerships with local agencies and in meeting the next class of LEA recruits.”
In addition to his years with Las Vegas Metro, Boone has experience working with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) as a Narcotics Bureau Detective & Task Force Officer from 2009-2016. Boone earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from UNLV in 1998.
At Drury, Boone will oversee day-to-day operations while also managing compliance with Missouri’s Peace Officer Standards and Training. Boone, a widely respected trainer on Fourth Amendment issues (protection against unreasonable searches and seizures) and report writing, will also be charged with updating the firearms curriculum, which will now include rifle, handgun and shotgun components.
