SPRINGFIELD, Mo., November 10, 2025 – With the holiday season rapidly approaching, Drury University proudly invites the campus and Springfield communities to be a part of its time-honored Christmas Vespers services. Two performances are scheduled for Sunday, December 7, with shows starting at 3 p.m., and 7 p.m., respectively.
Jay Dougherty, Director of Choral Activities, is in his second year directing the program.
“This year’s Vespers is shaping up to be truly special,” Dougherty said. “Our singers this year are top notch and they’re eager to share the spirit of the season with our community. We’re all honored to be a part of this long-held tradition.”
For over 60 years, Vespers has served as a moment of reflection and joy for the Drury community and beyond. Featuring the Drury Singers, Drury Chorale, and Pulse A Cappella, the program integrates a wide variety of sacred music with readings from the Bible, accompanied by piano, organ, and stringed instruments. The service draws inspiration from the traditional King’s College lessons and carols format, allowing audiences to connect with the season’s deeper meaning through familiar carols and unique musical selections from various eras and cultures.
While both performances are free and open to the public, tickets are required and can be reserved through Drury University’s website or by contacting the Drury Music Department at (417) 873-7296. For those who can’t attend in person, the event will be live-streamed on the Drury YouTube channel.
To help maintain the reverent and peaceful atmosphere that has made this tradition so meaningful, we kindly ask all attendees to be mindful of the sacred nature of the performances. For this reason, we recommend considering alternative arrangements for young children who may have difficulty remaining quiet throughout the service.
