SPRINGFIELD, Mo., July 17, 2025 – Drury University recently announced the selection of Rev. Dr. Charles Neff as University Chaplain. Neff will also serve as Professor of Religious Studies, and Director of Religious & Spiritual Life.

Neff comes to Drury after spending the previous five years as Executive Director in the Office of Christian Ministry at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.
“After several years of living far from home, I’m excited that this new role at Drury University allows me to continue to live fully into my dual calling to the classroom and the ministry while also being closer to family and friends,” Neff said. “I am especially looking forward to engaging the students on campus and being a part of the larger Springfield community.”
An Oklahoma native, Neff has over 30 years of experience in the ministry and has spent the past 18 years serving in a variety of both ministerial and academic roles on college campuses across the Midwest.
Prior to his time at Ashland, Neff spent five years as the Vice President for University-Church Relations and Dean of the Chapel at Oklahoma City University, his alma mater. Additionally, Neff has spent time serving and teaching on the campuses of Saint Paul School of Theology in Oklahoma City, and Eastern (Okla.) State College in Wilburton, Okla.
“Rev. Dr. Neff brings exceptional leadership experience in higher education ministry and a proven track record of fostering inclusive campus communities,” said Drury University Provost Dr. Beth Harville. “His unique combination of pastoral care, educational expertise, and commitment to bridging faith traditions will strengthen our university’s mission to serve students of all backgrounds while honoring our institutional heritage.”
Neff holds both a Bachelor’s degree and an MBA from OCU. He also earned Master’s degrees in Theological Studies and Divinity from Methodist Theological School in Ohio, and a Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary.
