4 credit hours

The five-week surgical supervised clinical practice experience is designed to give students hands-on practical experience in surgical medicine. Students will gain experience in the operating room as well as in pre- and postoperative patient care. Upon completion of the surgical rotation, PA students are expected to know how to conduct themselves appropriately in the operating room and to have gained practice in procedural skills required for care of the surgical patient including intravenous access, suturing, and other procedures as required by the preceptor.
