Breakthrough Scholarship

Drury University > Financial Aid > Breakthrough Scholarship

As we recognize the importance of diversity in education, the Breakthrough program aims to address the barriers that minorities often face in pursuing higher education. By providing financial assistance, mentorship, and targeted programming, we hope to empower talented and motivated individuals from underrepresented communities to pursue their academic aspirations.

Scholarship Criteria

The Breakthrough Scholarship will be awarded to graduating high school students who exhibit solid academic performance and demonstrate active engagement in extracurricular activities. We believe that a combination of academic excellence and extracurricular involvement reflects a holistic approach to student success. The scholarship recipients should embody the values of leadership, service, and a commitment to contributing positively to their community.

  • Be admitted to the university prior to 2/29
  • File the 2024-2025 FAFSA
  • Apply for the scholarship by February 29th

Enrichment Programming

To ensure the holistic development of our scholarship recipients, we have established a comprehensive First Steps Mentor and Leadership Program. This program will include guided campus involvement, mentorship opportunities, leadership development, workshops, tutoring, and community service initiatives. Through these activities, we aim to equip students in their first year with the academic tools needed for success. Additionally, providing the skills and experiences that will give them a powerful advantage that will enrich their personal and professional growth.

Benefits of the Breakthrough Scholarship/First Steps Program:

  1. Financial Support: The scholarship will provide financial assistance to deserving students, alleviating the burden of educational expenses.
  2. Mentorship: Each scholarship recipient will be paired with a mentor who will provide guidance and support throughout their academic journey.
  3. Leadership Development: Workshops, seminars, and tutoring along with other focused-driven leadership opportunities that will empower students to take an active role in campus life.
  4. Community Engagement: Service-oriented activities will instill a sense of social responsibility and encourage students to contribute positively to the community.
