Drury University campus murals are intended to visually promote the mission, vision, and values of the University.  All murals require approval from the Campus Mural Committee.  Proposed murals must have imagery suitable for all ages and be consistent with the architectural aesthetic of the building and campus.

Artwork Goals

  • Artwork designs should address themes consistent with Drury’s mission, vision, and values
  • No designs of political nature, sexual or crude designs will be accepted.
  • Artwork should be sensitive to the history, culture, and demographic of our community.
  • Artwork should be family-friendly and suitable for public display.
  • Artwork should be resistant to graffiti and vandalism and require minimal maintenance.
  • Semi-permanent artwork should have a life span of 10-15 years while short-term artwork should have a 3-5 year life span. Artists should include in their proposal the intended longevity of the artwork although it is the University’s final decision as to duration of the work.

Exhibition Period

The artwork will remain for the time period noted above however, in some cases the work may be removed prematurely, for example, should the building change ownership or extensive damage occur to the building. The university reserves the right to remove artwork for any reason.

Artists/artist teams will prepare and submit a site-specific proposal to be considered, in addition to the qualifications listed above. The proposal will include:

• The proposed visual image inserted into mockup in the intended location.
• A description of your intended proposed materials for site preparation, the work itself, and the protective coatings. Please keep in mind whether the mural will be on the interior or exterior of a building. For interiors, please note if paint supplies will cause hazardous odor during execution of the project.
• An itemized budget for the project including but not limited to paint supplies, protective supplies for surrounding areas, scaffolding, stipend, etc.; the budget will be taken into consideration in the final decision.
• Timeline for execution of the project. Please include preparation time of surface as well as how long it will take to complete the mural.
• Safety plan.
