ENGL 335: Film Studies

3 hours

A chief objective of this course will be to acquaint students with the critical and creative ways that scholars, bloggers, critics and screenwriters engage, analyze, respond to and create film. This course on film studies will also introduce students to classic and contemporary developments in the history of global cinema. Students will study films from around the world to observe currents, revolutions and innovations in cinema through a variety of critical filters, which will include psychanalytic, feminist, affective, spectatorial, genre and representation theories. As students watch and analyze feature films, short films and film clips, they will practice writing in a range of critical and creative modes, culminating in a larger final project.
