A survey of French and Franco-phone writers such as Chrétien de Troyes, Molière, Balzac, Flaubert, Camus, Sartre, Maryse Condé and an investigation of literary movements: courtly romance, classicism, the Enlightenment, realism, romanticism, symbolism, existentialism and postcolonial discourse. The course is conducted in English; no previous knowledge of French is necessary.
