The Hem Sheela Model School in Durgapur, India was founded in 1995 by Drs. Rabindra and Protima Roy. There are three school sites, including a 20-acre campus housing all grades, a separate elementary school, and a tribal school in a nearby village for first generation learners. The Roy’s have also established a health clinic for local residents. Drury University students have been visiting Hem Sheela since the school’s inception. Hem Sheela was designated a sister school of Drury University in 2002. The purpose of the Drs. Rabindra and Protima Roy Scholarships are to provide support for Drury students who are interested in exploring experiential learning opportunities in India.

Criteria:

  1. Students must be enrolled in a for-credit internship, student teaching, research, or other hands-on learning experience connected to the Hem Sheela Model School, Tribal School, or health clinic through Drury in India.
  2. Experiential learning grants may include, but are not limited to, funding for living expenses, travel expenses, fees and tuition associated with internships, student teaching, research or other hands-on learning experiences.
  3. Students awarded the experiential learning grant must provide a written document or oral presentation summarizing the results of their project.

All proposals must meet Drury’s study abroad safety criteria and be approved by the Associate Dean for International Programs. Completion of the study abroad form is required prior to making travel arrangements.
