Class of 2023 Application 

The Chocolate University International Business Immersion is an initiative of Askinosie Chocolate and Drury University managed by The Askinosie Foundation. Chocolate University engages local high school students through the lens of artisan chocolate making and small business entrepreneurship.

Applications are due Monday, December 5, 2022 at 5 p.m. CST. 

Selection: Applications are evaluated by a selection committee of 5-6 adults composed of employees of Askinosie Chocolate, Askinosie Foundation, Drury University, local high schools, and Southwest Missouri business community members.  All applications will be accepted or declined by December 31, 2022. Selected applicants will be invited to a Selection Committee Interview to take place in early to mid-January via Zoom. Final selection will be complete by January 31, 2023.

Eligibility: Applicants must be members of the graduating class of 2023 or 2024 and a current high school student residing in southwest Missouri, within reasonable driving distance of our Commercial Street meeting location in Springfield. Applicants should be 16 years of age by July 1, 2023.

Availability: Applicants agree to be available for selection interviews in January, program orientation in February 2023 and 5 mandatory pre-trip meetings to be scheduled after school hours February through May 2023. Applicants must also be available to attend a 3-5 day on-campus experience at Drury University and 10-12 days of travel to/from Tanzania in July 2023. Key date schedule will be shared at the orientation. Exact travel dates and itinerary will be determined by March 1, 2023.

TRIP COSTS / STUDENT FEES ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

A $500 student fee is required of all participants by February 1, 2023. The fee is payable to The Askinosie Foundation /dba/ Chocolate University. This program registration fee is not tax deductible or refundable. Additional expenses paid by individual travelers may include vaccinations, passport fees, and travel supplies and typically total $250-500. Additional financial support may be available for students with expressed need and can be discussed during individual student interviews.

Total value of the Chocolate University High School Immersion experience (meetings, travel, lodging, meals, etc) is approximately $4,800. Local businesses, foundations, and community members have stepped up to sponsor the majority of student travel costs for this unique experience.

Chocolate University strives to provide significant scholarship to all participants in order to enable the strongest applicants from Southwest Missouri to participate in the Chocolate University experience without financial constraint, creating an inclusive and equitable Chocolate University Class of 2023 and beyond.
