Drury hosts two juried art exhibitions in February

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., February 1, 2019 — Springfield art enthusiasts have much to be excited about in February, as both the Pool Art Center Gallery and Drury on C-Street Gallery host national juried exhibitions this month. Opening receptions at each gallery are 5 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, February 1.

Pool Art Center Gallery – State of the Union

Viewing Hours:  February 1-22

Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Thursdays, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

Every year, the President of the United States delivers the administration’s view of the nation and plans for legislation to Congress in the State of the Union Address. In the same way, this timely exhibition asked artists to present their views of the nation through art. Visitors to the gallery will witness work from a variety of artists addressing the current political atmosphere, the environment, equality, and more.

This exhibition was juried by Jonathan Thomas, a Drury alumnus and manager of National and International Advancement at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

The Pool Art Center is located on the Drury campus, on Clay Avenue just north of Central Street.

Drury on C-Street Gallery – Miles of Separation

Viewing Hours: February 1-22

Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Some people travel for leisure. Others travel to explore. Still others travel because of displacement or migration. Miles of Separationasked artists for their personal interpretations on the ease or difficulty of travel, inspired by all forms. Through these pieces, visitors will explore the way humans travel across the planet for asylum, weather events, luxury, exploration, or the need to relocate.

Like most Drury on C-Street exhibitions, this show was conceptualized and managed by Drury arts administration students as part of a practicum experience.

The Drury on C-Street Gallery is located at 233 E. Commercial Street. It is a professional, student-run gallery featuring emerging and established artists. The Gallery provides arts administration majors experience promoting the work of local artists and connects the community to new and relevant art in an accessible and welcoming environment.
