Hybrid lecture-piano performance at 3rd Annual Olin Library Morrison Lecture Series

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., October 28, 2019 — The 3rd Annual Olin Library Morrison Lecture Series will host pianist Jessica Xylina Osborne at 7:30 p.m., November 7 at Clara Thompson Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Osborne is one of the most intensely expressive and passionate artists of her generation and is dedicated to including music written by women in her recital programs. She will speak about various women composers and perform examples of their work within the context of her lecture.

As a highly sought-after collaborative partner, Osborne has worked closely with some of the world’s finest musicians, including Timothy Eddy, Hilary Hahn, and Mark Kosower. She has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, and has appeared in recitals at celebrated venues that include Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Musée du Louvre in Paris, and the Seoul Arts Center. She holds degrees in solo piano performance from Indiana University and Rice University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in piano performance from Yale University. She is currently the Visiting Assistant Professor of Piano at Sam Houston State University.

“The F. W. Olin Library is the intellectual heart of our campus and is emblematic of Drury’s tradition of liberal learning and interdisciplinary study," says William Garvin, director of the Olin Library. “In that spirit, the Morrison Lecture seeks to present speakers who showcase the range of academic disciplines found in our community of learners.  This year, Jessica Xylina Osborne’s lecture will focus on Music and Women’s Studies.”

The Morrison Lecture is named in honor of Drury University’s first president, Dr. Nathan Jackson Morrison, who was an early and staunch proponent of the library at Drury. The lecture series was initiated to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the F. W. Olin Library in 2017, and to highlight the central place that the library has always held in campus culture.
