Leadership Springfield Signature Class graduates eligible for master's level credit from Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., June 12, 2019 — Graduates of Leadership Springfield’s flagship Signature Class community leadership program will now be able to claim graduate-level college credit for their experiences in the intensive nine-month program – at no additional cost.

Drury University is offering Signature Class graduates up to six hours of academic credit toward the Master of Nonprofit and Civic Leadership degree, which is a 30 credit-hour program. This offer is retroactive to graduates of Class 29, who completed their program in 2014, through the current Signature Class graduating class and moving forward. Signature Classes 35 and 36 graduated this week.

Three of the credits will count toward the MNCL 701 Social Impact and Assessment course. Three additional credit hours may be earned by submitting a written request along with documentation of professional accomplishments and academic credentials.

The courses will appear on a participant’s transcript after all degree requirements have been met. There is no tuition cost for these six credits for Leadership Springfield Signature Class graduates, and Drury will waive the $25 application fee for these Leadership Springfield applicants.

"After 35 years providing community leadership programs for the Springfield area, we know the strong value of the Signature Class. This is an incredibly generous offer that highlights the value of the class content and the recognition that we are providing such a high quality program for area community leaders," said Carrie Richardson, Leadership Springfield Executive Director. "This partnership allows our Signature Class graduates to get 20% of their way to a Master's degree if they choose to pursue the MNCL degree."

“Drury’s Master of Nonprofit and Civic Leadership degree is a catalyst for community change. It prepares emerging and current leaders for executive leadership and service in the nonprofit and civic sectors,” says Dr. Charles Taylor, director of the MNCL program and a graduate of Leadership Springfield Signature Class 16. “Our faculty are impressed with the continued professionalization of the Signature Class curriculum, and we’re pleased to form this partnership recognizing that work.”

About the MNCL Program

Distinct from an MBA, the MNCL degree focuses on issues unique to the nonprofit and civic sectors, such as fundraising, grant writing, board leadership, issues management, social media and advocacy. Highly qualified and student-centered faculty spark student engagement with course material. Invited community speakers provide students access to leaders who are on the front lines of advocacy and community change.

The program consists of a mix of seated, blended and online formats in 8- and 16-week intervals. The degree can be earned in 18-24 months and GRE is not required for admission.
