Alumna named distinguished principal
SPRINGFIELD, Mo., March 13, 2018 — Dr. Monica Davis, who received a bachelor's degree from Drury University in 2001, was recently named 2018 Missouri Distinguished Principal for the South Central Region by the Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals (MAESP).
Davis, principal of Rolla Middle School, was awarded for promoting excellent leadership, quality education and professional growth. She was one of 12 elementary or middle school administrators from across the state honored by MAESP at an awards banquet at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Missouri.
“Monica has poured her heart, mind, body and soul into the Rolla Public School District,” said her colleague, Dr. Monica Fulton, principal of Rolla Junior High School and a fellow Drury graduate.
Davis has led the implementation of Project Lead the Way in Rolla Public Schools. PLTW is a nationally-recognized program that provides guidance for project-based and hands-on classroom experiences in science, technology, engineering and math. Davis has also created an annual day-long campaign for her students called the Kindness Campaign, in which students attend informational sessions led by adults and children living with life-altering disabilities. She is an advocate for children’s health and safety, as well as community involvement.
MAESP is a statewide organization in Missouri that exists to serve the needs of elementary and middle school principals, assistant principals and those educators interested in becoming elementary or middle level principals. MAESP is an affiliate of the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP).
