Drury University to host nonprofit workshop in Rolla

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., July 2, 2018 — Drury, in partnership with BKD CPAs, will host a nonprofit workshop at the university’s Rolla campus (1034 S. Bishop Ave., Rolla, MO 65401) on July 26 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Those interested in attending can register the day of the event. Cost is $29 to attend.

The workshop, hosted by Drury’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership, is designed for current and aspiring leaders of nonprofit and civic organizations, and will provide participants with important knowledge and tools they can readily apply to their organizations. Three critical nonprofit industry topics will be covered during the workshop:

  • Board roles and responsibilities
  • Nonprofit finance and accounting
  • Nonprofit board advocacy

Dan Prater, founder and executive director of Drury’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership and chairman of the board for Nonprofit Missouri, will facilitate the workshop. He will be joined by Patrick Walker, a fellow board member for Nonprofit Missouri and a professor of Nonprofit Administration at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, as well as nonprofit industry experts and advisors from BKD CPAs.

The workshop is part of Drury’s Nonprofit Leadership Training Series, bringing workshops to cities in rural areas of Missouri. In its first year, the center held workshops in Joplin, West Plains, Cape Girardeau, St. Joseph and Jefferson City. This year, the center will also travel to Farmington, Poplar Bluff, Kirksville and Sedalia.

“We intentionally choose cities not located near larger metro areas,” says Prater. “The reason is that these cities have nonprofit organizations doing important work, but often lack resources. So going to these communities allows us to provide training on critical topics to help them reach their mission.”

Prater says the workshops are ideal for organizations of all types and sizes, including social services, education, churches, faith-based, health care and civic.
