Drury Theatre presents “Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness” Oct. 10-13
SPRINGFIELD, Mo., October 1, 2018 — Drury University’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts is proud to present its production of “Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness.” The play opens at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 10 in Drury’s new Sunderland Studio Theatre.
Written by playwright Anthony Nielson, the play follows the crew of a Victorian traveling freak show led by the titular impresario, Edward Gant. At times dark and comical, and other times distressing and introspective, the performance promises to shock audiences with its blend of mystery, magic, and melancholy. Ultimately, the grotesque freak show serves as a perfect backdrop for this challenging exploration of loneliness, hope, and our inevitable mortality.
Nearly all of the show’s design and production has been done by students including costumes, lighting, sound, and props.
“We have an incredibly creative cast and production team that stepped up to the challenge of this bizarre and unconventional show,” says director Haddy Kreie, visiting assistant professor of theater at Drury. “Each night at rehearsal I find myself doubled over with laughter, and then on the brink of tears. We are so excited to invite audiences into this zany world with us.”
