Drury, SBU raise more than $265,000 in annual Bank of Bolivar Catfight Giving Challenge
SPRINGFIELD, Mo., November 14, 2018 — Alumni and supporters of Drury and Southwest Baptist universities raised a combined total of more than $265,000 in the fifth annual Catfight Giving Challenge, a friendly fundraising competition tied to the two schools’ on-court basketball rivalry.
The Bank of Bolivar has sponsored the Challenge since 2014. Money raised supports student scholarships and financial aid at both schools.
Drury University saw 415 donors give $153,978 to win the challenge this year. SBU raised $111,317. Over the course of five years, the competition has raised a combined total of more than $615,000.
“The real winners of this competition are the students at both Drury and SBU,” says Melanie Earl, director of annual giving and stewardship at Drury. “Alumni, parents, friends and even students participated this year. Our success is due to their outstanding support of scholarships at Drury. On behalf of all the students at Drury, I express our most sincere thanks.”
The final push for donations took place during Tuesday’s basketball double-header at Drury’s O’Reilly Family Event Center. Drury won both the men’s and women’s basketball games on the court as well.
Money raised by Drury will support the Annual Drury Experience Fund, which is an effort to raise $1.6 million in scholarships and financial aid for students with limited financial resources. While events such as the Catfight Challenge are important milestones in the fundraising calendar, efforts to financially support the university’s mission are ongoing throughout the year. Drury has seen incredible momentum in donor support recently – the university more than doubled overall giving last year.
