Drury Enactus team launches online platform to connect consumers with fresh produce

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., May 21, 2018 —As temperatures begin to rise, Drury University’s Enactus team is already looking forward to a bountiful harvest with the launch of Produce Portal, Springfield’s first online farmer’s market.

Located at ProducePortal.org, this project aims to connect produce growers with potential buyers from around the region in a free and easy-to-use online marketplace. Although open to producers of all sizes, Produce Portal is specifically focused on empowering backyard gardeners to grow their hobby into a sustainable entrepreneurial endeavor while reducing costs attached to traditional marketing and physical storefronts.

In addition to produce, other items listed on the website include locally-raised meats, seeds, plants, craft goods, and more. Produce Portal is free for both sellers and buyers, and monetary transactions take place in-person similar to other popular classified sites and forums.

Producers can register for a Produce Portal account and immediately begin posting items for sale. Potential buyers can likewise create an account to view items, review and rate products and sellers, and opt-in to receive email alerts when their favorite items are posted.

Produce Portal was imagined and designed by members of Drury’s Enactus team, whose mission is to solve social and economic problems through entrepreneurial action in communities throughout the world. The team is in Kansas City this week participating in the 2018 Enactus National Exposition.
