Director's Welcome

Dr. Charles A. Taylor

It is my distinct privilege to welcome you to the M.A. in Communication home page.  If you’re a current student, I hope your program is everything that you envisioned it would be, and that the information found here can enrich your experience even more deeply.   If you’re an alumnus, welcome home.  I hope you will (re)connect with all of the exciting things happening at your alma mater – and in the M.A. program.  If you’re a prospective student, I hope the information you find here provides you the knowledge you need to make an informed choice regarding your very bright future.  I also hope that future includes an M.A. from Drury University.

Drury’s M.A. in Communication provides graduates with an intellectually rigorous experience that is simultaneously theoretically sophisticated and grounded firmly in the professional and technological realities of the 21st century.  With emphases in Organizational Leadership and Change and Integrated Marketing, Drury prepares students for academic achievement and professional advancement in a variety of professional fields.  Our alumni have gone on to tremendous professional success in leadership positions in organizations as diverse as the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, BKD, Noble and Associates, Cerner, O’Reilly Hospitality Management, Convoy of Hope and Azoff Music Management.  We also count one of the NBA’s three female referees among our graduates!

Our faculty are all world class teachers and active scholars.  Collectively, they have provided more than 100 years of university teaching experience, along with more than 250 books, articles or competitively selected conference presentations.  In addition, they have consulted with and/or worked in organizations as diverse as the Gannett Corporation, the Christian Science Monitor, Cox Health and the United States Department of Defense.  You can learn more about each of us in our respective faculty biographies, but we are all committed most fundamentally to your success in the classroom and in your professional world(s).

Drury is a special place and I look forward to welcoming you in person to the university, Shewmaker, and our graduate program.   Do not hesitate to contact me at any time by phone (417) 873- 7391 or email if I can be of any assistance to you.
