Gifts & Grants

Gifts and grants from alumni and the community enable Drury University to strengthen areas that make the university stand out. We are grateful for ALL donors who support Drury in ANY amount!

Below are a few of the many ways donors gave back this year. All donors will be recognized in the annual publication, “Honor Roll of Donors.”

The Stanley & Elaine Ball FoundationDrury University received $4,000 to support its Reading Clinic, which provides literacy interventions for elementary students in the economically disadvantaged Midtown neighborhood.

The Drury Reading Clinic engages university students in two practicum courses, offering one-on-one and group literacy interventions to children from Boyd Elementary and surrounding areas. The grant will fund additional reading materials tailored to students’ needs and snacks for evening sessions held on campus. These resources aim to enhance learning outcomes and address rising literacy support needs.

Melba Shewmaker Charitable Remainder Trust provided ongoing funding for the university until Mrs. Shewmaker’s passing when the remaining balance was then gifted to the university.

Justin and Ashley Kilker Powell ’07/’07 made a gift of appreciated stock to benefit the Student Success Fund for over $10,000.

An anonymous donor made a $10,000 gift of appreciated stock to the Don Deeds Endowed Scholarship Fund which provides support to student-athletes competing in golf or majoring in the sciences.

Steven Ellis, M.D. ’87 made a gift of over $15,000 in appreciated stock to benefit the Chemistry Department, Biology Department, and the Student Success Fund.

Thompson Sales Champions Challenge 2024 – The 5th year of the challenge set records in both dollars and donors resulting in nearly $400,000 from 1,191 donors. Thank you to all the donors that participated.

PRESIDENTIAL MEET & GREETS

This fall has been a whirlwind of activity for Drury’s new “first family,” as alumni from Springfield and across the state gathered to connect over delicious meals and engaging conversations. Special thanks to Walt and Susan George ’79/’80 for graciously hosting in Kansas City, and to John and Crystal Beuerlein ’75/’75 for welcoming us in St. Louis. With nearly 200 alumni spanning classes from 1959 to 2024 in attendance, these gatherings offered a wonderful opportunity to share Drury stories and enthusiasm for the university’s future. Above all, they served as a powerful reminder of our Drury family’s enduring reach and impact.
