Lauren Fergerson ’25 of Ozark, Missouri, discovered her path early on. Encouraged by her parents Chad and Jennifer Fergerson ‘98/’00, both Drury alumni and educators, she explored her interests in math, finance, and business as a high school student through DECA, FBLA, and work in a local tax office. Now nearing the end of her studies at Drury University, Lauren is completing degrees in Accounting and Finance, a minor in Cyber-Risk Management, and an International Immersion Certificate.
Throughout her college experience, Lauren has embraced hands-on experiences and leadership roles. As a member of Drury’s Cyber Defense Team, she helped the team excel to the top state ranking and a fourth-place finish at the regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition.
“Building our team from scratch has been both a challenge and a reward,” she says, reflecting on her interest in blending accounting with IT skills for careers in areas like government compliance.
Lauren also serves as the president of Tri Delta, where she previously managed the sorority’s finances, further honing her leadership and financial skills. Through the VITA Tax Clinic, she’s given back to the community, offering tax preparation assistance to those in need.
“Drury gives us so many opportunities to grow not just in academics but in community impact,” she says.
Through Drury’s International Immersion Certificate, Lauren had the transformative experience of studying abroad in Greece for a month, marking her first time outside the United States. Immersed in a new culture, she was inspired by local customs, diverse perspectives, and even a newfound interest in philosophy — something she never anticipated. This exposure, combined with her business-focused studies, reinforced her understanding of the value of cultural awareness in an increasingly interconnected world.
Mentorship has been central to her journey, with faculty like Dr. Mary Andrews Martin, Dr. Tiffany Cossey, and Dr. Shannon McMurtrey guiding her in bridging accounting and cyber-risk management. Their support has helped Lauren shape her vision and prepare for her CPA exam, for which she’s devoted extensive hours.
Lauren embodies everything Drury hopes for our students. She is involved not only in the Breech School of Business, but also across campus and in the community, always leading and going above and beyond what’s required of her. I know Lauren will make Drury proud wherever her future takes her.”
In January 2023, Lauren began working at Forvis Mazars as a student associate, gaining real-world experience that complements her studies. She is excited to join the firm full-time post-graduation and expand into cyber-risk management.
“Forvis Mazars has worked with my school schedule and allowed me to apply what I’m learning to real scenarios,” she shares.
As she looks ahead, Lauren feels well-equipped for the next chapter, inspired by her mentors, family, and friends. With purpose and confidence, she embodies the spirit of Drury Fusion — curiosity, expertise, and transformation.
Lauren promises, “Drury’s Fusion is truly an incredible opportunity to obtain an all-encompassing education that ensures that you’ll be successful in whatever you pursue.”
