More than 30 years ago, the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke these words:

“A genuine revolution of values means . . . that our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectional. Every nation must now develop an overriding loyalty to mankind as a whole in order to preserve the best in their individual societies. This call for a world-wide fellowship that lifts neighborly concern beyond one's tribe, race, class and nation is in reality a call for an all-embracing and unconditional love for all men. This oft misunderstood and misinterpreted concept . . . has now become an absolute necessity for the survival of man.”

Today's high school students face a society that is increasingly diverse in nature. Global issues have become personal issues, affecting our communities, families, and homes.

Given the events in the world over the course of your own life, how do you respond to the above quote? What do you view as the key challenges and goals for the world during the rest of your lifetime?

Students are invited to submit an essay (500 words), video (3 minutes), or creative interpretation (canvases or paper limited to 18” x 24” or sculpture limited to 12” x 12” x 18”) responding to these issues:
