Drury University and Missouri State University (MSU) have partnered to develop a program for MSU students interested in spending a semester at the Drury University campus in Volos, Greece, and Drury students seeking to study at MSU’s campus in Dalian, China. Drury students attending Liaoning Normal University remain Drury students while abroad. They are registered at Drury and will pay their fees to Drury. Most scholarships and financial aid remain in place; exceptions are activity grants, work study, and the room & board portion of Trustee Scholarship. Students must attend mandatory orientation meetings in the semester prior to their semester abroad in order to participate in the program.

About the Program

The purpose of the MSU Study in China program is to increase cultural and educational exchanges and to promote friendship and understanding between the United States and China. The program offers tremendous language and cultural experiences. All courses are taught in English.

The Campus

Liaoning Normal University is a key university in Liaoning Province. It was established in 1951. It has 10 colleges and 23 departments, offering 36 master’s degree programs and two doctoral degree programs. The University has 420 professors and associates professors, more than 9,000 undergraduates, more than 400 postgraduates, and 300 international students.

Program Dates

The academic year in China begins in early September an ends in mid July. Students may opt for a semester’s study or for the entire academic year. The fall semester begins September 1 and ends in early January. The spring semester begins approximately February 20 and ends in mid July.

Application Procedure and Deadline

Students should complete a Drury Study Abroad application. GPA requirement is 3.0. The grades that a student earns at Liaoning Normal University will count toward their Drury GPA. Application deadline for fall semester is May 1 st , and spring semester is October 1st.

The approximate cost for renting a two-bedroom apartment near campus is around $225.00 per month. The estimated cost for meals is $180.00 per month. There is a $100.00 housing deposit required.

Academics

Drury students participating in the Study in China Program enroll in at least 12 credit hours and have a variety of curriculum options. Students will participate in required orientation sessions with MSU before departing for China. No previous Chinese language skills are required. The applicant must be in good standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
