Speech Communication Center

About the Speech Communication Center

The Speech Communication Center helps Drury students prepare and deliver successful presentations for class assignments, conferences, and guest lectures. Through one-on-one consulting sessions, we provide a safe environment to practice, ask questions and get feedback at all levels of the speaking process. The SCC also offers the opportunity to record digitally your presentations in our private taping room, followed by constructive feedback from a trained peer consultant.

The Speech Communication Center provides services to help the Drury community:

  • Conduct effective audience and situational analysis
  • Brainstorm and refine topic ideas
  • Gather strong supporting material
  • Construct an organized outline
  • Learn strategies to strengthen both physical and vocal delivery styles
  • Design and integrate effective visual aids
  • Practice with presentational technology
  • Acquire techniques for managing speaking anxiety and communication apprehension
