Steve Snelson

Online Faculty Training Specialist

Hello, my name is Steve Snelson and I am the faculty training specialist for Drury's Online Education office.  My job is to establish training opportunities for our online faculty, facilitate training for new online instructors, and oversee the training development of our faculty as a whole.  Basically, I teach teachers how to teach online...or so they tell me...

I have been teaching in the field of education for over 20 years.  I have a B.S. in Education/History (from MSU) and a M.Ed in Curriculum Design and Instruction (from the University of Minnesota).  I have taught at the Jr. High, High School, and Jr. College levels...usually History/Social Studies/Philosophy.  Most recently (the last 6 years) I have taught for various online institutions as an on-ground, online, and blended class instructor and lead faculty, campus chair.

I have one daughter, Sara (10 years old) and my son, Oliver (2 years old).  I have a standard poodle, Grace.  I enjoy reading, gaming, football, cooking, fishing, and when I get real crazy, camping.  My favorite colors are silver and black...my favorite food is anything...my favorite music is heavy metal (I am just an old headbanging hair rocker from the 80's) and my favorite movie(s) are the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.  I read and watch anything about military history...

My educational philosophy stems from a student-centered perspective.  The student is and always will be the most important focus of my endeavors.  I am a facilitator.  I emphasize critical thinking skills in my teaching...and a constructivist approach to learning.  I hope I can convey the passion I share for teaching as a whole and specifically for online instruction.  My door is always open, don’t ever hesitate to contact me with questions or if you just want to talk shop…
