The Theatre Department supports the liberal arts mission of Drury University by providing basic courses for all students designed to develop an appreciation and understanding of the contribution of theatre arts to cultural life.
For those students interested in the study of theatre, the department offers a major in theatre leading to a bachelor of arts degree. While the program of study includes all aspects of theatre, students have some options for selecting specific emphases in the field. Theatre graduates are prepared to enter the profession, to pursue further study at the graduate level or to pursue careers in other areas of endeavor.
Students planning secondary teaching careers may pursue a major program leading to certification; this option may be combined with pursuit of an additional teaching area. Students pursuing teacher certification must take additional prescribed courses in education and communication.
Departmental productions are integrated with the course offerings to provide majors with creative laboratory experiences. In addition, these productions provide all Drury students with participation opportunities to explore this aspect of their creativity and the entire Drury and Springfield communities with a chance to experience a wide variety of theatrical productions.
