Accounting Students Attend IMA Conference - September 19-20, 2013

Intermediate accounting students attended the Regional IMA Conference at University Plaza.  I presented "The FASB Codification" during one of the conference sessions.

Alumni visits classroom - September 2013

Accounting and MBA alum Carrie Winston Brown, supervisor at Elliott Robinson, spoke to the ACCT 307 class about careers in accounting and a work comparison between national and regional accounting firms.

Study Abroad Honor Reception - September 26, 2013

Alumni Justin and Ashley (Kilker) Powell  ’07 hosted a Study Abroad Honor Reception at the Breech School.  Scholarship award recipients spoke about the impact of the scholarship on their study abroad experiences and donors to the scholarship fund were honored.  Additional scholarship donations were announced.  

Delta Mu Delta Induction - October 1, 2013

Springfield community and business leader and Breech Advisory board member, Jane Bennett was inducted as an Honorary Member in the Delta Mu Delta International Business Honor Society along with 10 students from the top 20% of junior and seniors at Breech.   

Breech Open House during Alumni weekend - October 4, 2013

Breech held an Open House Reception for visiting alumni and current students.  Special acknowledgment was given to Distinguished Alumni Award recipient Curtis Dinan.  Other visiting alumni included Jerry Poe ’53 and Champ Merrick ’54. 

Drury Alumni visit Dr. Rohlf’s class during Alumni weekend - October 4, 2013

Dr. Rohlf hosted Drury alumni in his Economics class.  Alumni attending included Jerry Poe ’53, former Breech Director and person responsible for hiring Bill, along with Drury Emeritus Trustee Jeanette Clinkenbeard ’69.

Danny Lay - October 26, 2013

Alumni Danny Lay (MBA 1979) visited Drury in October. Currently VP for Business Development and Operations, Southeast Asia, Emerson Electric, Mr. Lay spoke to Breech MBA students about business operations in Asia.  A reception hosted by the MBA Student Advisory Board for Mr. Lay preceded the talk and several of Mr. Lay’s former Drury classmates and now Drury Trustees attended the event.   Mr. Lay spoke with undergraduate student leaders at a breakfast the following morning. He concluded his visit with a discussion of strategy with an undergraduate management class.  

Breech Advisory Board meeting - November 1, 2013

Breech Advisory Board members held their biannual meeting at the Breech School in November.  Along with their business meeting the Advisory board spent time with current students, visiting classrooms and holding panel discussions. Board members concluded their meeting by joining faculty, current students, and prospective students and families as part of Breech School of Business Prospective Student Day.

Breech Idea Blitz - November 14, 2013

Area high school students visited Breech to participate in the Breech Idea Blitz.  For this event the Breech School and the Edward Jones Center partnered together to host 6 area high schools and 34 students for a business plan competition held at Breech.  Breech faculty and students worked with the high school students on projects which were then presented to a panel of area business leaders.  

Visiting Alum – November 27, 2013

Alum, Jeremy Clopton (managing consultant at BKD) visited with ACCT 307 and 209 students on November 27, 2013 on careers in fraud and forensic accounting.

Finals Week

Elliott Robinson also sponsored final's week for accounting students and Carrie Winston brought snacks for students during the final exam period.

Breech Students went on Study Abroad trip to Greece in January 2014

Eleven students along with Dr. Robin Sronce and Dr. Regina Waters went on a service-learning study abroad trip to Aegina, Greece.  The students continued working with the Aegina Ethelontis, a community volunteer group on the island.  The students replanted the winter garden for food distribution and under the guidance of Dr. Regina Waters updated the Facebook page for the volunteer group.

Company Visits

Partner, Bill Miller, and alum, Erin Stone Norris (KPM) met with ACCT 308 students on January 31, 2014 to discuss preparing for a professional career in accounting.  They also provided networking and interviewing tips for students. 

BKD has scheduled a Lunch 'N Learn for the ACCT 308 to be held March 27, 2014.

Gary Holmes co-authored, “A meta-analysis of consumer impulse buying,” in the Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services (2013).

James Simmerman authored, "Pretesting for Financial Literacy by Gender and Income" in Journal of Financial Issues.

Conferences

Dr. Penny Clayton attended the AACSB Annual Accreditation Conference, Sept 22-24, 2013.

Dr. Rod Oglesby attended the AACSB Business Accreditation Seminar, Jan 28-29, 2014

Dr. Michael Shirley attended the AACSB Dean’s Conference, Feb 2-4, 2014. 

Dr. Michael Shirley was elected to the Board of the MidAmerican Business Deans Association, AACSB, at their October 2013 meeting.
