Yong Huang is an American architect grew up in Beijing, China; As a gifted designer, he started to work with his professor Josef MacDonald (Urban A+O) at the GSD Harvard University, also briefly worked with Peter Rose before meeting with Swiss architect Pierre de Meuron during his studio teaching there. Since early 2003, he joined with Herzog de Meuron in Basel, and worked for nearly four years as a senior architect on a number of international projects, such as the “Bird’s Nest” Olympic Main Stadium in Beijing, 1111 Lincoln Road in Miami, and Film Academy in Qingdao. Since 2007, he returned to New York and joined with Davis Brody Bond as a leading designer; he collaborated with Peter Walker on RiMED biomedical center competition in Palermo, Italy, collaborated with Lord Cultural Resources on Yunnan Museum competition in China, and worked on a number of school campus projects such as Princeton University Neuroscience and Psychology Building (designed by Rafael Moneo). Before coming to Drury University, he also worked with Danish architect Bjarke Ingels Group in New York in 2012.

In 2008, he started to teach architecture studio at Rhode Island School of Design, and is a guest studio critic there. In 2011, he was a guest studio critic at the GSD, Harvard University. The long-time friendship with professor Peter Tagiuri at RISD and professor Wang Shu at China Academy of Art not only cultivated him as a designer, but also developed his academic career; since Fall 2012, he has started a full-time teaching position at Drury University Hammons School of Architecture.

Mr. Huang received Master’s degrees from both Harvard University and Pratt Institute, and received architecture professional degree from Beijing Polytechnic University. He is a registered architect in New York.

He lectured at Harvard University GSD-China in 2006 on Design Process and Methodology, also gave this lecture at China Academy of Art. His interview by Domus was published by Domus China in 2007. His article on Architecture Surface was published in New Observation in Beijing in 2010. In 2012, he established Atelier HAY; and his installations were selected by 798 Gallery and Song Zhuang Gallery in Beijing for exhibitions in Fall 2012.
