Admission Requirements for Transfer Students

Drury welcomes transfer students! We strive to make the process smooth and positive. Our goal is to provide clear explanations about requirements for admission, degree programs and transfer of credit.

ADMISSION

Drury has a rolling admission policy, which means that applications are accepted until the beginning of each term. However, several weeks are usually needed to complete the process of admission and transfer credit evaluation. Therefore, the recommended deadline for applying for admission and sending all credentials to the college is a minimum of 60 days prior to the start of the semester.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

  • Completed application for admission, including essay.
  • Official high school transcript. Request your high school send an official final copy of your high school transcript to the Office of Admission.
  • All official college transcripts. Request all previous colleges send an official transcript to the Office of Admission.
  • Transfer reference form
  • ACT of 21 or higher, or SAT minimum combined score of 980. Submitting ACT or SAT scores is optional for students who have earned 30 or more transferable college credit hours from a U.S. college.
  • Architecture students with transfer work in architecture and/or art must submit a portfolio of studio work and syllabi of non-studio architecture courses to the attention of Hammons School of Architecture.
  • Students receiving an associate of arts degree need to submit a statement from the registrar of the college from which you’re graduating stating the degree earned as well as the type of academic program completed.

WHEN IS ADMISSION NOT GUARANTEED?

A student with a cumulative GPA below 2.0 from a U.S. college is not guaranteed admission. If admission is granted -- it is on probation. This requires the student to achieve significant progress toward the GPA required for graduation (2.0) once the student is enrolled at Drury. Students who have been suspended from another college will not be eligible for admission for one calendar year following suspension.

TRANSFER OF CREDIT AND THE EVALUATION PROCESS

Drury accepts course work from regionally accredited U.S. colleges and from institutions of higher education abroad. Course work from non-accredited institutions, including trade schools and Bible colleges, is not transferable. All transcripts are evaluated course by course.

Classes must be comparable in content to courses in the Drury curriculum to qualify as transferable credit. Courses that are not normally offered as part of a liberal arts program, such as clerical studies, will not transfer. Drury will accept liberal arts courses that we do not teach, such as all languages, and other areas if they support the student's liberal arts curriculum.

Drury no longer has a cap policy on the number of transfer credits the institution will accept. If your transfer credit meets the guidelines listed in our transfer policy, it will most likely be accepted. To be eligible for graduation, transfer students must complete the last 30 semester hours (60 hours for bachelor of architecture), in residence.

Any student who has previously attended another institution of higher learning but fails to include such information in the application for admission to Drury will forfeit the right to be accepted by Drury.

While a student is working toward a degree at Drury, prior approval is required before enrolling at any other institution for any course work for which the student would like to receive transfer credit.

TRANSCRIPT EVALUATION

A transcript evaluation, or advanced standing report, is completed by the registrar's office for each transfer applicant. It lists the number of credit hours that will be accepted. It further states which of those classes will meet general education requirements for the bachelor of arts degree and which credit hours will count as elective credit (not required but counted as credit hours toward the degree). The report will include general course requirements still needed for a bachelor's degree.

The catalog specifies which courses fulfill each major. If a student has courses toward a major program of study, the academic department for that major reviews the transcript(s) to determine which courses will fulfill the requirements for the major at Drury. The student's advisor will discuss with him/her the major requirements and general requirements during scheduling of classes.

The advanced standing report is usually issued at the beginning of the first semester when the student meets with their academic advisor for class scheduling just prior to registration. However, you may request an advanced standing report at any time in the admission process through the Office of Admission or the Office of the Registrar as soon as the university receives your college transcripts.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A BACHELOR'S DEGREE AT DRURY UNIVERSITY

Students must successfully complete 124 semester hours of credit. A bachelor of architecture requires 168 semester hours of credit. Accounting majors will exceed 124 semester hours in order to meet requirements to test for the CPA exam. At least 36 of the total number of hours must be advanced or upper level courses (courses numbered in the 300's and 400's in the catalog). All students must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours (60 for the bachelor of architecture) at Drury.

A PERSONALIZED PROCESS

Each student's background and college work is carefully reviewed to provide an accurate and fair assessment of university course work. The advanced standing report is a formal guideline. If an applicant questions the results, they may discuss the issues with the registrar of the university or the academic department of their major program of study.
