Missouri Council of the Blind

The Missouri Council of the Blind offers scholarships to legally blind Missouri students pursuing a full time course of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Deadline: June.

The Fred Scheigert Scholarship Program

Offered by the Council of Citizens with Low Vision International, the Fred Scheigert Scholarship Program provides competitive scholarships to full-time college students with low vision. Applicants must meet academic and vision requirements to be considered. Deadline: March.

American Council of the Blind

The American Council of the Blind presents more than two dozen scholarships and awards to outstanding blind students each year. All legally blind full-time students admitted to academic and vocational training programs at the post-secondary level may apply. A cumulative grade point average of 3.3 is generally required.

Learning Ally

Learning Ally offers national achievement awards for high school and college students who have disabilities. Deadline: March.

  • The Marion Huber Learning Through Listening Awards are presented to Learning Ally-member high school seniors with learning disabilities who demonstrate extraordinary leadership, scholarship, enterprise and service to others. Offered since 1991, the awards are given to six students chosen by a selection committee.
  • The Mary P. Oenslager Scholastic Achievement Awards are presented to Learning Ally-member college seniors who are blind or visually impaired in recognition of extraordinary leadership, scholarship, enterprise and service to others. Offered since 1959, the awards are given to nine students chosen by a selection committee.

National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Scholarship Program

Each year at its national convention the NFB awards 30 scholarships to recognize achievement by blind scholars. Each applicant must be a legal U.S. resident who is legally blind in both eyes and pursuing a full-time post-secondary course of study in a degree program at a United States institution. Christian Record Services Scholarship

Partial scholarships are offered to legally blind young people enrolling full time in undergraduate degree programs. Deadline: April.

Association of Blind Citizens Scholarship Program

The Association of Blind Citizens (ABC) offers the Reggie Johnson Memorial Scholarship to legally blind students seeking college degrees. Scholarships may be applied to tuition, living expenses or related expenses resulting from blindness. Deadline: April.

American Federation for the Blind (AFB) scholarships

The AFB offers seven different scholarships for legally blind students entering or attending a college or university. Deadline: April.

Guildscholar Award

The Jewish Guild for the Blind has created an annual scholarship program for college-bound high school students who are legally blind. The GuildScholar Program annually awards 12-15 scholarships to people of all religious backgrounds. Deadline: September.

Arthur E. and Helen Copeland Scholarships

The Arthur E. and Helen Copeland Scholarships are awarded annually to two students, one male and one female, who are member of the United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA), are legally blind and are enrolling/enrolled full time at a two-year or four-year or technical institution or university. Applicants must have participated in USABA sports programs. Deadline: August.

Deaf and hard of hearing

Annual Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired

In 1975 the Travelers Protective Association of America (TPA) established the TPA Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired to provide financial aid to U.S. residents who need help obtaining mechanical devices, medical or specialized treatment, or specialized education and accommodations directly related to hearing impairment. Deadline: March.

Physical disabilities

Spina Bifida Association Scholarship

The Spina Bifida Association (SBA) Scholarship Program offers competitive one-year scholarships to qualified high school graduates who have spina bifida and are pursuing higher education. Deadline: March.

Independence Foundation Scholarship

The Independence Foundation Scholarship was created to help students with physical disabilities pay for the ever expense of college. Scholarships are awarded to three students with physical disabilities. Deadline: April.

ELA Scholarship

The ELA Scholarship program provides financial assistance for women with physical disabilities who are pursuing graduate degrees at accredited universities. Scholarship awards are based on merit. Deadline: June.

Paralyzed Veterans of America Scholarship

The Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Scholarships are available to U.S.-citizen PVA members and their spouses or dependent children. Applicants must be accepted or enrolled in a degree program at an accredited U.S. college or university

1800Wheelchair.com Scholarship

1800Wheelchair.com annually offers a scholarship to an undergraduate student who wins an essay contest. Preference is given to students with mobility disabilities.

Mays Mission Scholarships

Mays Mission offers seven scholarships to students with physical and/or mental disabilities who meet academic qualifications and are enrolled full time in undergraduate programs. Deadline: June.

SpinLife Innovation in Motion Scholarship Program

The online retailer of mobility equipment has developed the SpinLife Innovation in Motion Scholarship to aid college students who use manual or power wheelchair and are seeking undergraduate degrees at accredited institutions.

Scholarship Program for Amputee College Students

The National Amputation Foundation offers the The Claude S. Weiler Scholarship for Amputee College Students provides six scholarships to full-time college students with major limb amputations. Deadlline: August.

Health Related

Cystic Fibrosis Scholarship Foundation

The Cystic Fibrosis Scholarship Foundation (CFSF) provides opportunities for young adults with CF to further their education at a college or vocational school. Scholarships are awarded based on educational achievement, leadership and financial need. Deadline: March.

Hydrocephalus Association Scholarships

The Hydrocephalus Association offers scholarships to young adults with hydrocephalus. Scholarship funds may be used for a four-year or junior college, a high school post-graduate year to prepare for college, a technical or trade school, an accredited employment-training program or a post-graduate program. Deadline: April.

Patient Advocate Foundation’s Scholarships for Survivors

The foundation offers scholarships to students younger than 25 who have been diagnosed with cancer or critical or life-threatening diseases. Funds can be used for college, university or vocational-technical school tuition fees.

Elizabeth Nash Foundation Scholarship Program

The Elizabeth Nash Foundation (ENF) awards scholarships to help people with cystic fibrosis (CF) pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees. The program is open to U.S.-citizen students with CF who are prospective or current undergraduate or graduate students at accredited U.S.-based colleges and universities.

Factor Support Network Pharmacy Scholarships

Factor Support Network offers two scholarship programs. The Mike Hylton & Ron Niederman Memorial Scholarship provides five scholarships for men with hemophilia or von Willebrand Disease and their immediate family members. The Millie Gonzalez Memorial Scholarship provides two scholarships for women with hemophilia or von Willebrand Disease.

SolvayCARES Scholarship Award

Solvay Pharmaceuticals, which makes produts for people with cystic fibrosis (CF), created the SolvayCARES Scholarship Award to honor young adults with cystic fibrosis as they pursue post-high-school education. Applicants must enter the Thriving Student Achiever Contest. In 2010 40 students received the award.

Pfizer Epilepsy Scholarship

The Epilepsy Scholarship Award is a one-year scholarship honoring 25 outstanding students who have overcome the challenges of epilepsy, been successful in school, done well in activities outside the classroom or in the community, and shown a desire to make the most out of college or graduate school. Deadline: June. 

Ulman Cancer Fund

The Ulman Cancer Fund established the Matt Stauffer Memorial Scholarship to support the financial needs of college students who are battling or have overcome cancer and who demonstrate financial need. Deadline: May.

National Hemophilia Foundation’s Kevin Child Scholarship

Each year the Kevin Child Scholarship is awarded to a qualified student who has hemophilia in memory of Kevin Child, who was born with hemophilia and died of AIDS before finishing college. Deadline: June.

Lupus Inspiration Foundation for Excellence (L.I.F.E.)

The L.I.F.E. Scholarship is awarded twice a year to students who have been diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and are working toward degrees at accredited U.S. colleges or universities. Each applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be involved in at least one extracurricular activity. Deadline: July.

The Andre Sobel Essay Award

The Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation offers annual essay awards to young survivors of catastrophic illness. Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 21 and consider themselves survivors of cancer or other critical or life-threatening illnesses.

Mays Mission Scholarships

Mays Mission offers seven scholarships to students with physical and/or mental disabilities who meet academic qualifications and are enrolled full time in undergraduate programs. Deadline: June.

Autism spectrum

Autism Society of America Scholarships

The ASA offers several awards and scholarships. Its CVS/All Kids Can Scholars Program annually provides a scholarship to a qualified student with autism toward the completion of an accredited, postsecondary educational or vocational program of study. Deadline: March.

General

Exceptionalnurse.com College Scholarship Awards

ExceptionalNurse.com awards multiple scholarships to help qualified students with disabilities who are enrolled in nursing and nursing-education programs. Preference is given to undergraduate students. Deadline: June.

American Library Association (ALA) Century Scholarship

The American Library Association's annual Century Scholarship funds services or accommodation for graduate students with disabilities admitted to ALA-accredited library schools to pursue a master's degree or doctorate in library science. Deadline: March.

Communicative Disorders Scholarship Program

Sertoma offers a Communicative Disorders Scholarship Program for students who have been accepted into a graduate-level program in speech/language pathology and/or audiology at a U.S. college or university accredited by ASHA’s Council on Academic Accreditation. The scholarship covers tuition, books and supplies. Deadline: March.

Anne & Matt Harbison Scholarship

In keeping with the goals of artist P. Buckley Moss, who struggled with dyslexia during her school years, the Harbison Scholarship is awarded to one high school senior with a certified language-related learning difference who is pursuing post-secondary education. It is renewable for up to three additional, consecutive years.Deadline: March.

Little People of America Scholarships

LPA offers educational scholarships to prospective and current students enrolling in college or vocational school in the United States. Scholarships are given, in order of preference, to: LPA members with medically diagnosed dwarfism; immediate family members of dwarfs who are paid members of LPA; non-LPA-member people with dwarfism; other disabled students; and non-disabled students demonstrating financial need.
