DSIFE, Inc., a company conceptualized, owned and run by Drury SIFE students officially opened for business in October 2004. DSIFE, Inc., the first ever completely student-run incubator, provides the resources many local budding entrepreneurs need in order to get their business off the ground, free of charge. With a $50,000 grant from the City of Springfield, Drury SIFE remodeled an old mortuary building to house the operation. DSIFE, Inc. provides phone and fax lines, Internet access, small business consulting and other services to area entrepreneurs in need of a little assistance.
The idea for DSIFE, Inc. began as a desire to help the Springfield community in an area that hasn’t seen much support. DSIFE, Inc. also encompasses the whole of SIFE’s mission. SIFE students will learn to run a business, while teaching community members what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur.
DSIFE, Inc. currently provides support for seven budding entrepreneurs who have posted successful results throughout the past few months of operation. While several businesses will soon “graduate” from the program, new clients are constantly recruited and accepted after a precise application and selection process.
Our incubator has also attracted the attention of the National Business Incubation Association, the premiere organization for business incubators in the country. Last spring, we presented at their conference in Baltimore, giving us the opportunity to learn how to better serve and attract clients.
Due in large to the success of DSIFE, Inc., Drury SIFE launched DSIFE Non-Profit in October 2005 to provide the same services to non-profit based organizations in the Springfield area.
In addition, we have established DSIFE International, a micro-loan program for young businesses in Nicaragua. We are able to provide the same consulting services to our international clients through the internet, mail, and phone.
