Recruiting & Retention
Untitled Document
Drury University supports and encourages students to get involved in student organizations and provides registered student organizations multiple opportunities to participate in Drury-sponsored events. Through these events and activities, Drury supports and encourages a wide variety of organized out-of-class activities and urges students to get involved, become leaders, and make a difference in their community. Your student organization has a variety of recruiting & retention opportunities available, including:
Admissions Events & Drury Visit Days Each academic year, the Admissions Office hosts events, or visit days, for prospective students. In addition to regularly inviting prospective students to experience our campus throughout the year, the Admissions Office also hosts large, special visit days on the weekends to attract hundreds of visitors to show off the beautiful Drury campus.
First Year Experience Event Opportunities First Year Experience events are a great way to recruit new students that are interested in learning about or becoming a member of your student organization. Since most First Year Experience events occur before classes begin each year, your student organization will have a captive audience of new students that are interested in learning more about what your organization has to offer.
Student Activities Fair The Annual Student Activities Fair is the premier student involvement event each year. Student Organizations are able to increase visibility, share information, and meet potential new members by participating in the Student Activities Fair. The Student Activities Fair is an excellent opportunity to showcase your group's unique membership benefits and services. Due to the popularity of this program, the Office of Student Involvement must approve all group participation prior to the Student Activities Fair.
Finding & Recruiting New Members New members are the key to growth in any student organization and by learning key tricks for recruiting the new members you want, you will continue to ensure the membership success of your organization.
The beginning of the fall and the spring semesters are great times to hold larger recruiting events, because there are many students who are considering which groups they want to join. However, your group members should recognize that ANY time is the right time to find new members or help potential members experience the positive benefits your group offers. This provides potential members and current group members a chance to meet and become familiar with each other.
Retaining New Members Developing and conducting an organizational recruitment campaign is very important, but retaining these members is another matter entirely. All too frequently groups skip any form of orientation and just place their new members directly on committees or organizational projects.
