The Master in Education with Emphasis in Special Reading is designed for teachers who already have Missouri Teacher Certification. The Special Reading program leads to the endorsement in Special Reading Teacher Certification by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The program is developed around the 5 Core Propositions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and utilizes many of the assessment strategies associated with the National Board Certification process.

Students complete professional education courses related to the knowledge, skills and dispositions of instructional leaders in the field of reading and language arts. The objective of the program is to prepare teachers who are able to diagnose and correct reading problems for school age children.
