Jim Wallis is a founder of Sojourners, a Christian ministry with a mission to “integrate spiritual renewal and social justice.” The group’s projects include Sojourner Magazine, which Wallis edits, and other resources to address faith, politics and culture from a biblical perspective.

“Jesus, in his first sermon — his Nazareth manifesto, you might say — said, ‘The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.’ Good news to the poor. To be evangelical means to preach and live and act in a way that is good news to poor people. It is impossible to be an evangelical Christian and ignore the vast teaching of the Bible about poor people.”
